Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney John Young is resigning from that position, effective July 31st, to become the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Christian County (just south of Springfield).  Young said his current job in Mercer County is a part-time position, while the Christian County opportunity involves a full-time job.

Young also plans to close his private law practice in Princeton on July 31st.  He is tentatively scheduled to begin his duties in Christian County, in Ozark, Missouri, on August 1st.

Young said he has enjoyed practicing in this area, and hates leaving the area and community and closing his law practice, but he mentioned he will have a smaller caseload, with increased pay and better benefits.  Young said God opened a door in southwest Missouri, and he felt a need to take advantage of the opportunity.  He was hired by the Christian County Prosecutor.

Young submitted his resignation to Governor Jay Nixon last week, giving the Governor the opportunity to appoint someone else to fill the Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney’s job.
