Maryville man killed, two injured in Sunday crash

A Maryville resident was killed and two others from Sheridan were hurt in a two-vehicle traffic accident in Worth County late Sunday afternoon.

Fatally injured was 16-year-old Ronald Smith of Maryville who was a passenger in a car driven by 17-year old Matthew Petersen of Sheridan. Peterson was flown by medical helicopter to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with moderate injuries.

Another passenger in the car, 13-year-old Andrew Alarcon of Sheridan, was transported by private vehicle to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville with minor injuries.

The driver of a sports utility vehicle, 16-year-old Olivia Davidson of Sheridan escaped injury.

The accident happened two miles east of Sheridan on Highway 46 at Highway 246 as the SUV was eastbound and the car was traveling west when the collision occurred, demolishing the car and extensively damaging the SUV.

The patrol reports Ronald Smith, the man killed in the crash was not wearing a seatbelt.
