Melody Shipley began teaching at North Central Missouri College in the fall of 1995. Since then, she has served many roles on campus, including math faculty, Associate Dean, Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC), Director of Developmental Education, and Assessment Team Leader. Over the years,

Mrs. Shipley has received multiple awards at the local, regional, and international levels, recognizing her as an outstanding educator. Some of her most memorable honors include the Phi Theta Kappa Paragon Advisor Award for Leadership; the student-nominated Brown-Pushkarsky Award for her positive interactions with students; an award for program development from the Midwestern Regional Association for Developmental Education (MRADE); and the Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award. Melody has also filled numerous positions in professional organizations including serving on state committees, President of MRADE, and the Chair of the Missouri Developmental Education Consortium (MoDEC).

Through her dedication and commitment to education, Melody has touched the lives of countless people within and beyond the NCMC region. As she is preparing to transition to her next great adventure (retirement), she would love to hear from former students, ARC tutors, co-workers, and other friends. An all-day drop-in celebration is planned in her honor at the Academic Resource Center on the campus of NCMC in Barnes Hall on Main Street, April 27, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Friends are invited to stop by anytime, share a snack, and reminisce.

At Melody’s request, the ARC staff is creating a resource box with 3” X 5” index cards filled with fun places for her to visit (like America’s Best Kept Secrets).  Visitors are asked to add a destination from their own experience with extra details about sights to see and things to do in the area. Ideas might include something like a beautiful bridge in a faraway national park or a hidden waterfall in a bordering state, so bring your suggestion to add to the box. If you can’t come by but would like to wish Melody well on this special day, please feel free to mail your suggested destination on a 3” X 5” card to the following address: Melody Shipley, c/o Tina Totten, North Central Missouri College, 1301 Main St., Trenton, MO  64683. Notes can also be emailed directly to Melody at [email protected]. Melody is ready to relax and see the world—Destination Retirement.
