The Laredo Board of Alderman has voted to raise water and sewer rates because of new expenses incurred by the town for mandatory water tower and lagoon updates.

The water base rate is going up by $7.00 to $24.00. The sewer rate is going up by $3.00 to $18.00. The price per gallon for usage will remain the same.

The changes are to the minimum base amounts. The new water and sewer rates will start being charged on the May 2016 billing at Laredo.

The alderman passed an ordinance regulating open burning. The ordinance prohibits the burning of garbage, tires, fabric, furniture and any other kinds of waste. It will allow a limited number of days in April and October for the burning of residential yard waste consisting of leaves and brush from vegetation grown on a residential property.

Such burning would be allowed within the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm — only during 4 weeks of the year. There will be a two week period starting the first Saturday in April and another two week period starting the third Saturday in October.  Burning outside the specified time frames may be permitted with board of aldermen approval.
