Grundy County Commissioners met yesterday morning with two representatives of the Missouri department of transportation.

Discussion focused on the possible closings of some rural railroad crossings in Grundy County. Union Pacific Railroad has indicated it's thinking of closing some of the little-used crossings. Commissioners say a public meeting will be announced once those crossings are targeted for possible closing.

No decisions have been made. Depending on which crossings are involved, and reaction from the public, the decision could lead to possibly closing some rural roads to through traffic. Grundy county commissioners were introduced to the local MoDOT maintenance superintendent for the area counties: Keith Hartwig. Accompanying him on the visit with commissioners was MoDOT area engineer Tonya Lohman.

On an unrelated subject, Grundy county commissioners are encouraging the public to be extra cautious when burning due these very dry conditions. It's recommended that a source of water be available nearby when burning outdoors.
