|The Galt Board of Aldermen has approved increases in utility rates and re-set the tax levy. The aldermen held their monthly meeting.|
According to city clerk Mary Young, Galt received an 18 percent increase in rates in June from the Grundy County Public Water Supply District.
The board decided to pass on the rate increase after the first one thousand gallons of water per month per customer.  The base rate of 16 dollars a month remains and covers the first one thousand gallons of water.  Then, rates will be raised by 18 percent for additional water used.
For electricity, the Galt aldermen decided on no changes to the minimum usage of 200 killowatts a month.  Above that amount, there will be an increase of one-half cent per kilowatt.  There’s a tiered electric rate scale for Galt customers. The aldermen also decided to keep the base rate for sewer service at tendollars a month.  After that, it will cost three dollars and 74 cents per each thousand gallons.  That’s an increase of 62 cents.  (currently additional $3.12)
All of the rate changes at Galt are to occur with September bills. Mrs. Young said the increases are due to inflation and government regulations.
Following the tax levy hearing, the aldermen re-adopted the tax levy at one Dollar on the 100 dollars of assessed valuation.  The levy is expected to generate Over 87-hundred dollars ($8,735) in tax revenue for the town of Galt.
