Fire Destroys Home Southwest Of Trenton

Fire yesterday afternoon southwest of Trenton destroyed the Amanda Lawson residence at 284 southwest 8th street.

The structure was engulfed in flames when Grundy County Rural Fire Protection firefighters Arrived on the scene. The cause of the blaze was undetermined.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

18 firefighters responded to the scene. They prevented two sheds from catching fire in the windy conditions. The sheds were about 20 feet from the house.

Trenton Fire Department Lieutenant Mike Moore was among those responding to the scene. He said firefighters drank a lot of water. Air temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s late yesterday afternoon. The Grundy county ambulance service provided drinking water. There also was water on the firetrucks.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters were on the scene more than two hours.

The structure was owned by Wendell Guess of Trenton
