|Bethany will be the location on the final day of this month for a bone marrow signup drive.|
The purpose is to add names to the national bone marrow registry in case an individual happens to be an exact match for someone else who faces a life-threatening health condition.
The bone marrow registration is Saturday August 31st at the Bethany Community Center at 103 North 25th in Bethany. The hours for the sign-up are from 8 until 3 o'clock.
The drive is held in honor of Gina Myers of Bethany who was diagnosed one year ago with acute myeloid leukemia Officials say her only hope for a cure was a bone marrow transplant. After being unable to find a match within her family, Gina turned to the National Bone Marrow Registry. A match was found for Gina from a complete stranger. She is now described as in the process of undergoing a bone marrow transplant that could save her life.
Thousands of patients are still in need of finding a bone marrow match.
Gina Myers is asking the public to register at a bone marrow donor when the drive is held August 31st in Bethany. Persons who are generally in good health, and between the ages of 18 and 55, are encouraged to sign-up. The process will involve swabbing a persons' cheek and completing a form.
