Another six thousand dollars for the fund was raised by Farmers Electric members rounding up their electric bills. Over 11-hundred members participate in Operation Round Up each month.

A challenge was met to raise ten thousand dollars to have Doctor Don Metry cut off his ponytail within two weeks following the auction. In addition to raising money for the area youth benefit fund, the hair will be donated to the Locks Of Love program.

The Farmers Electric Area Benefit Youth Fund provides financial assistance for medical bills of Children 18 and under who's parents do not have resources or health insurance to cover the medical costs.

The fund primarily operates in Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Linn, Livingston, and Ray counties. Families residing in those counties do not have to be a member of farmers electric cooperative to receive Financial assistance.

Members of Farmers Electric who do not reside in those counties are eligible for the assistance.

Since the fund was established in 1993, more than 566-thousand dollars has been distributed to 552 area families.
