Sgt. Sheldon Lyon of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at 2:28 p.m. Friday at the 28-mile marker when the car hauler rear-ended a tractor-trailer that had slowed in construction traffic. The crash caused the car hauler to become engulfed in flames.

Lyon said officials are diverted traffic at Faucett, using State Route DD and State Highway 371.

Before 7 p.m., crews were able to open one lane. Around the same time, patrol officials announced the estimated opening of the second lane to be around 10 p.m. Friday.

Lyon reminded motorists to be on alert for construction-zone work.

“Summertime is construction time,” he said. “Watch for the orange signage on the highways indicating road traffic ahead. Those types of signs are out there, they really need to anticipate them and traffic slowing down — people just need to pay attention.”
