|Incoming M-U freshman Sierra Michaelis is set to receive an honor from North Mercer High School. Michaelis will have the number 30 she wore at every home game of her career, retired this summer.|
Michaelis will join the Lady Tigers for the 2013-14 basketball season after helping the North Mercer Lady Cardinals to 122 wins with only five losses during her four years with the team. Michaelis was quoted in a M-U press release as
calling the retiring of her uniform number 30 “an amazing honor."
Michaelis led the North Mercer Lady Cardinals to the program's first state tournament appearance, helping the team to a third-place finish this year. She finished her career as a four-time HDC All-Conference and All-District award winner. She was also named to the All-State First Team each year of her career.
Michaelis racked up 3,170 points during her four-year run, which puts her second all-time in Missouri state history. She is a McDonalds All-American nominee, and was also named Miss Show-Me Basketball.
Head women's basketball coach at M-U, Robin Pingeton, issued a statement describing retiring of the number 30 at North Mercer, a very prestigious and well-deserved honor. She called Sierra a proven winner on and off the court. And that M-U feels very blessed to have her as a part of the basketball program. To have your jersey and number retired is—the MU coach said--not something that happens by chance; the honor is one that represents Sierra's work ethic, commitment, and dedication to the sport; and something she'll remember the rest of her life.
