Officers with the Chillicothe Police Department responded to Advance America Cash Advance, located at 518 S. Washington St., shortly after 7:20 p.m. on May 31, said Capt. Tony Kirkendoll.

After officers arrived, it was reported that a 6-foot, 5-inch, 250-pound Hispanic male had entered the business, forced a female employee into the back room and stole approximately $5,000 in cash and approximately $1,200 in gold jewelry before he fled the store.

As officers continued the investigation, store employee Athena Rose Chandler was arrested for her supposed-involvement in the fabrication of the robbery. Mr. Kirkendoll said the investigation revealed the robbery was a planned hoax for the money and jewelry while Ms. Chandler was working.

In an effort to cover her involvement, Mr. Kirkendoll said a past boyfriend of Ms. Chandler’s came into the store and acted out the robbery. A portion of the money and jewelry have been recovered.

Police continue to search for the second suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chillicothe Police Department at (660) 646-2121.
