A 14-year old boy from Laclede was injured in a Thursday afternoon accident in Chariton County, where two vehicles met on a curve on Highway 139. It happened five miles east of Sumner. The Highway Patrol described injuries as MODERATE for Joseph McKenney who was taken by ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield.
The teen was a passenger in an SUV driven by his 49-year old father, Joseph McKenney of Laclede. He was southbound while a pickup truck was heading north and driven by 67-year old William Hamilton of Marceline. Officers said the vehicles struck one another on a 90-degree curve while McKenney was exiting onto a gravel road, and Hamilton was turning onto a SEPARATE gravel road. Neither DRIVER was hurt.
