|A Wisconsin resident was injured in a Monday morning accident that closed a portion of northbound Interstate 35 for nearly two hours. The Highway Patrol described injuries as minor for 34-year old Luis DeLeon of Fitchburg, Wisconsin. He was taken by ambulance to Cameron Regional Medical Center.|
The Patrol said DeLeon's pickup truck and a tractor-trailer unit were both southbound on I-35 when the large truck hit the rear of a unit being towed by the pickup truck. After impact, the towed unit separated from the pickup. The pickup went off the west side of I-35 and overturned onto its passenger side. The tractor-trailer traveled through the median and came to a halt, facing east, blocking both northbound lanes of I-35.
Traffic was re-routed until the wreckage was cleared at about 8:30 on Monday morning. The Cameron Police Department said the large truck was hauling paper products. The Highway Patrol identified the driver as 62-year old John Botts of Lonsdale, Minnesota. He apparently escaped injury.
The accident, reported just before 6 o'clock on Monday morning, was one mile south of the Winston junction. Both drivers were using seat belts. The pickup was demolished while the tractor-trailer received moderate damage.
