Out of four wrestlers that Trenton High School brought to the Class 1 state tournament, three remain alive in competition, all in the state quarterfinals, as quarterfinals, semifinals, and wrestlebacks are contested today at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Trenton's 170 pound senior Jacob Spillman had a first-round bye on Thursday, and automatically advanced into the quarterfinals, and a meeting with Curtis Quick of Sherwood, a junior with a record of 46-6. Spillman enters his first match of this year's state tournament with a season record of 42-1.
At 113 pounds, Trenton senior Carlos Gonzalez moved into the quarterfinal round after a pin of Alex Kamau of Principia at ONE MINUTE, 38 SECONDS. Gonzalez, in today's quarterfinal round, will go against 35-6 senior Jerin Hudgens of Carrollton.

Mason Mounce did impressive work for Trenton at 152 pounds, taking a pin over Tishawn Jackson of Cleveland in the morning first-round match. The pin came at ONE MINUTE, FIVE SECONDS. In the state quarterfinal this morning, Mounce will battle 48-6 Maverick Griffin of Kansas City O'Hara. Mounce's season record is now 40-6.

Trenton 160 pounder Thomas Mack was bounced from the state tournament in two matches, although Coach Charlie Bacon says that Mack acquitted himself well in the tournament in Columbia. In his first round match, Mack lost by 7-0 decision to Jalen Skaggs of Seneca. In the first round of wrestlebacks, Mack lost a heartbreaker to Spencer Harris of O'Hara by a score of 5-3, in a match that went to extra time.

Should the Trenton boys win their quarterfinal matches, they would wrestle in the state semifinals tonight. A quarterfinal loss would drop the wrestler into the second-round of wrestlebacks, a scenario that would mean the best finish possible would be THIRD place.
