The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department is investigating a Friday night shooting in Breckenridge (January 11th) that claimed the life of 12-year old Steven Curtis. Authorities were called to 58 West Maple in Breckenridge to a report of a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, it was determined that Curtis had mishandled a handgun and suffered a gunshot wound.

The youth was flown by medical helicopter to University of Kansas Medical Center and died on Saturday from his injuries.

Steven Curtis was a 7th-grader at Breckenridge School. Staff opened the doors at the school Sunday for any children who needed help from pastors and counselors on hand to deal with the death.
