Sunday morning accident kills Sumner woman

A Sumner woman was killed, and a Brunswick man was SERIOUSLY injured, when a pickup truck overturned off a Chariton County road early Sunday morning. Pronounced dead at the scene was the driver, 34-year old Jessica Diehl of Sumner. A passenger, 42-year old Charles Lewis of Brunswick, was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, with injuries described as SERIOUS by the Highway Patrol.
Another passenger, 41-year old Daniel Drew of Sedalia, refused treatment at the scene. The accident was on Chariton County Route M approximately ten miles northeast of Brunswick. The Patrol said the eastbound pickup went out of control, traveled off the left side of the road, and overturned, coming to rest on its top in a ditch. The pickup was demolished. The Patrol said Ms. Diehl was the only person wearing a seat belt.
