Two men from St. Joseph were injured late Wednesday afternoon in a traffic accident three miles west of Gallatin. The Highway Patrol said that the men, 27-year old Teklit Weldeabzgi and 30-year old Tedla Tesfameskel, suffered SERIOUS injuries and were flown by medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.
The Patrol said the men were in a westbound car, driven by Weldeabzgi, on Highway 6 when an attempt to pass a tractor-trailer was made in a 'no passing zone'. The driver abruptly moved back into the westbound lane to avoid oncoming traffic. In that process, the driver over-corrected with the car going off the south side of Highway 6 where it overturned, coming to rest on its top. The car was demolished. Both men were using seat belts.
