NCMC loses games Friday night at Highland Classic

The North Central Missouri College basketball teams continue to struggle on the road in the state of Kansas, losing a pair of games on Friday afternoon at the Highland Classic, with the men falling to Barton County by a final of 83-51, while the Lady Pirates fell to the host Highland Scotties by a final score of 70-51.
The matchup against Barton County was a difficult one for the Pirates, with Barton coming into the game ranked #8 in the latest NCJAA Division One men's basketball poll. The loss drops NCMC to the .500 mark this season.

The Lady Pirates fell one game below .500, with 4-5, and have another potential concussion to deal with in the aftermath of Friday night's defeat. Freshman guard Samone Redditt went to an area emergency room after being cut open by an elbow to the eyebrow. Coach Jenni Croy said on Friday night, it was a 'potential concussion' for Redditt, a freshman guard from Independence, Missouri.

North Central, against Highland, had an early lead, and led until one minute remained in the first half. The Lady Pirates, trailed by three points at the break, and struggled with turnovers in the second half. Mysti Williams led NCMC with 17 points and 10 rebounds, with Kelsey Griffin adding 11 points, Amanda Rodenberg nine points and 10 boards, with Lexi Hope contributing eight points.

The Highland Scotties were led in scoring by Carina Jackson (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with 22 and Rylie Bowser (Holton, KS) and Janelle Saling (Lathrop, MO) both with 11.

The NCMC women played again on Saturday afternoon at the Highland Classic. Both North Central teams will be in action on TUESDAY night in Lamoni, Iowa, playing the Graceland University JV teams at 5:30 and 7:30. That game will represent the final game of 2012 for the Pirate men. The Lady PIrates will be in Florida this coming weekend to play two teams in the Miami area. North Central, on Friday afternoon, December 7th, will play Miami-Dade Community College at 5 o'clock, followed by a game at 2 o'clock the following afternoon (Saturday, December 8th) against Broward County Community College.
