Trenton splits season-opening wrestling triangular with Cameron and Mid-Buchanan

|The Trenton High School wrestling team opened the "Charlie Bacon Era" on Tuesday night with a season-opening triangular at Cameron High School. The Bulldogs fell to the host Dragons 63-18, but rebounded to upend Mid-Buchanan 54-12.|
In the duel with Cameron, Trenton winners were Carlos Gonzalez at 106 pounds, as he pinned Cameron's Caleb Quigly in 41 seconds; senior Jacob Spillman at 182 pounds, in a pin over C.J. Hershberger at 3 minutes and 31 seconds; and senior Dakota Galvin, by pin at 195 pounds over Cameron's Jared Hamilton, at 2 inutes and 46 seconds.
Cameron's winners against Trenton were Justin Gans (113 pounds), Dakota Morris (126 pounds), Austin Heldenbrand (132 pounds), Kyle Anderson (138 pounds), Ryan Burkhart (145 pounds), Marshall Colson (152 pounds), Kevin Sugden (160 pounds), Nathan Fagerstone (170 pounds), and Brady Gunn (heavyweight). All of those victories came by pin, with the exception of Morris, who won by 4-1 decision over Trenton's Wynne DeVorss. Levi Marlay of Cameron claimed points at 220 pounds, with Trenton not having a wrestler in that weight group. Trevor Burkart of Cameron earned points at 120 pounds, with Trenton having an open in that group.
The Bulldogs found much more success in their head-to-head duel with the Mid-Buchanan Dragons.
Trenton winners by forfeit were Carlos Gonzalez (106), Colby Weaver (113), Travis Leeper (145), Jacob Spillman (182), and Dakota Galvin (195 pounds). Both schools had an open weight at 120.
At 126 pounds, Trenton's Wynne DeVorss won by pin at 5 minutes, 5 seconds. At 132, Dalton Ellis of the Bulldogs won by pin at 3 minutes, 11 seconds. At 152 pounds, Mason Mounce of THS won by pin at 3 minutes, 13 seconds. At 160 pounds, Thomas Mack won by pin at 5 minutes, 29 seconds.
Mid-Buchanan's mat victories against Trenton came from John Anderson (by pin over Caleb Feagins at 138 pounds), and Coleman Lawson, by pin over Trenton's Layton Harkins at heavyweight (at 1 minute, 44 seconds).
The Trenton wrestlers, coming off Tuesday's opening night performance, will now get ready to compete in the Marceline Tournament, starting at 9 o'clock on Saturday morning at Marceline High School.
