Basketball teams from Iowa and Missouri will face each other in the first annual Putnam County "Border War" tournament on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights of this week. Iowa schools participating are Albia, Centerville, Davis County, and Eddysville-Blakesburg. They will meet Missouri teams from Clark, Schuyler, and Putnam Counties over the three day event. Each of the Iowa squads will play one game during the week, while the Missouri teams will each play three games.
Each basketball player will receive a "shooting shirt" trimmed in the school color with an Iowa/Missouri Border War logo. The cost of the shirts has been partially offset by donations from Hy-Vee, Bob's Food Mart, Dannco, Casey's General Store, Putnam County State Bank, Helena Chemical, CTS, and the Putnam County Booster Club.

Putnam County Athletic Director Andrew Garber says that four games will be played each on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, beginning at 4:30. Admission will be $4.00 for adults, and $2.00 for senior citizens and students.
