A New Cambria resident was injured early Sunday morning when the pickup truck he was driving went off Highway 149 and hit a tree and fence near the north city limits of New Cambria. Twenty-four year old Michael Mallett was taken to University Hospital in Columbia (by helicopter), with injuries described as MODERATE by the Highway Patrol.
The investigating officer said the northbound pickup went off the right side of Highway 149, then off the left side of the road, hit a tree and a fence, and rolled down an embankment.

The pickup was demolished. The Patrol said Mallett was not wearing a seat belt.
