Mid-week farm accident kills Humphreys resident

A 74-year old Humphreys man, Keith Smith, was killed late Wednesday afternoon in a farm accident just northeast of Humphreys. Sullivan County Sheriff Roger Smiley said Smith was using a farm tractor and disc mower when the tractor ran out of fuel.
After refueling the tractor and doing some work with a filter, the equipment rolled over Smith. The tractor and mower were on an incline. Sheriff Smiley explained the tractor and mower were not running when the accident was discovered early Wednesday night.

Smith's pickup truck and a small trailer with diesel fuel were at the scene. He apparently was cutting grass on CRP land for hay. The property owner is from out of the area.

Funeral arrangements for Keith Smith are being handled by the Payne Funeral Home of Galt.
