Sounds of "big band" music come to Chillicothe November 4th

The big band sound of music greats like Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Count Basie, the Dorsey Brothers and others will be featured in a 3 o'clock concert on Sunday, November 4th, at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe.

That's when the University of Central Missouri Faculty-Alumni Big Band comes to Chillicothe to perform as part of the 2012-13 Chillicothe Arts Council’s arts season.

The band includes 5 saxes, 3 trombones, 3 trumpets, a piano, a base, drums, a guitar and a vocalist, and will perform the music of the ’40s and the ’50s, according to Julie Ashbrook, arts council administrator.The program will include World War II era songs such as “In the Mood”, “Pennsylvania Six Five Thousand”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “April in Paris”, “Tuxedo Junction”, “I Can’t Get Started,” “Satin Doll”, and many other favorites.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door beginning at 1:45 p.m., the day of the show. No advance tickets will be sold. Season ticket holders will be admitted with their season ticket. Seating begins at 2:30.
