| While requesting additional drivers for the V-A shuttle bus to take local and area veterans to medical facilities, Veterans Service Officer Wayne Kleinschmidt stressed there is a dire need for the transportation service. The drivers do not receive pay for their service; so Kleinschmidt recommends Veterans—if they are financially able – consider “tipping” the driver.
Persons interested in being a driver of the V-A shuttle bus should contact Wayne Kleinschmidt of Trenton so he can arrange for the day of “driver's training”. He hopes the V-A shuttle bus will be located at Trenton by the end of the month so it can start being used by veterans in need of transportation (call 359 2078).
There is a day long training session drivers need to attend at Kansas City. It includes a physical and information on driving techniques. Once completed, drivers receive a Federal I-D for transportation purposes.
In addition to federal holidays, the V-A transportation schedule will be affected by road and weather conditions. Depending on availability of regular and part-time drivers, Kleinschmidt hopes a five day a week schedule can be developed with the trips to Kansas City on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and to other V-A facilities on Tuesday and Thursday.
