Trenton struggles to eighth place finish, after day one of Class 1 state golf

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs are in eighth place out of eight teams after day one of the Class 1 girl's golf state tournament on Monday at the Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
Westminster Christian Academy is in the lead with a score of 330, followed by Villa Duchesne at 363, and Sacred Heart at 373. The rest of the field, in order of finish after the first day, are Mount Vernon, Richmond, Moberly, and Maryville. Trenton's score of 446 is 18 behind the Spoofhounds and 23 behind the Spartans of Moberly.

Leading the individual standings are Brooke Cusumano and Jordan Wolf, both of Westminster, with rounds of 75 and 76, respectively. The top area score was 89, good for a 14th place tie, turned in by Lawson's Maddie Propst. Brookfield's Miranda White shot 97.

Trenton's top score was a 99, shot by senior Haley Purkapile, good for a 42nd place tie. Other THS scores were Katie Lenhart with 106, Chandler Wilson at 108, Karley McCollum at 133, and Lauren Schmidt with 145.

Day two of the Class 1 state tournament gets underway this morning at New Bloomfield, with the Trenton girls having work to do to climb out of eighth place.
