Fatality accident in Mercer County claims life of Iowa woman

|A Keokuk, Iowa woman suffered fatal injuries in a two-vehicle accident Friday near Princeton.|
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a truck driven by Bryce Shields of St. Joseph halted for the stop sign on Route A at the intersection with Highway 136, six miles west of Princeton.
Shields then pulled his truck into the path of a westbound truck, driven by Madonna Kirchner of Hamilton, Illinois.
The two vehicles struck in the middle of the intersection, with Shield's vehicle coming to rest in the middle of Route A and Mrs. Kirchnerís truck going off the north side of Highway 136, striking a ditch and a billboard, where it came to rest. Shield's vehicle sustained extensive damage, while the Kirchner truck was totaled.
Mrs. Kirchnerís mother, 81-year-old Lois Waldron of Keokuk, Iowa, was taken by Mercer County Ambulance to the Harrison County Hospital in Bethany, where she was pronounced dead. Mrs. Kirchner and her husband, Richard, sustained SERIOUS injuries and were also taken by Mercer County ambulance to Harrison County Hospital. A passenger in Shield's truck, Ashton Holmes of St. Joseph, was taken by Mercer County Ambulance to the Harrison County Hospital for treatment of MODERATE injuries, while Shields sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel.
With the exception of Mrs. Waldron, all of those involved were wearing seat belts.
