|The Trenton Lady Bulldog golf team is STATE BOUND, shooting a 390 at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe on Monday, to become one of eight teams to advance to the Class 1 state tournament, and just two, along with runner-up Moberly, to head for state out of Section 3.|
Trenton's team score on the day was 390, with Moberly shooting 397. Falling short of qualifying for state, as a team, were third-place Mexico at 404, fourth-place Brookfield at 407, and fifth-place Kirksville at 429.
The individual medalist at SECTIONALS is Moberly's Nichole Marquis, with an eight-over-par score of 80, well in front of the runner-up score of 86 turned in by Layne Ray of Mexico at 86. Brookfield's Miranda White was third place at 87.
Trenton's power, as evidenced throughout the season, came from the depth of its five-player roster, as Chandler Wilson led the sectional champions with a round of 88, good for fourth-place overall. Katie Lenhart shot 94 and Haley Purkapile 98 for Trenton, while underclassmen Karley McCollum and Lauren Schmidt showed great improvement at the Green Hills course, with McCollum shooting a 110 and Schmidt 130. McCollum's 110 turned out to be a critical factor in the Lady Bulldog's seven-shot advantage over the pre-sectional favorites from Moberly.
Brookfield's scores, in addition to the 87 turned in by White, were 101 from Nicole Liebhart, 107 by Amanda Hueffmeier, 112 for Haylee Howe, and 123 by Cassie McKenzie.
Trenton and Moberly advance to the Class 1 girl's golf state tournament, to be played at Meadow Lake Acres Golf Club in New Bloomfield, Missouri (just northeast of Jefferson City) on Monday and Tuesday, October 15th and 16th.
