| The Trenton Bulldogs fought hard, but struggled to move the football on Friday night, falling 39-7 to the visiting Pembroke Hill Raiders in a Week 5 homecoming game broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. The game was more competitive than the final score indicates, as Trenton trailed 6-0 after one quarter, as the Raiders scored on a 26 yard run by Charlie Mueller midway through the first stanza.
More damaging to the Bulldog hopes of a victory were the TIMING of the second quarter scores. A 20 yard pass to Jak Kittoe came with 2:52 left in the half to make the score 12-0, and the Trenton defense gave up a 60 yard pass down the seam on the final play of the half, giving the Raiders an 18-0 advantage.
The game remained 18-0 throughout the third quarter, with the Raiders pulling away from the Bulldogs in the fourth. A 39 yard scoring strike made it 25-0 (with the converted extra point) four seconds into the final quarter, with a 1 yard scoring run by bruising fullback Harold Edwards giving Pembroke Hill at 32-0 lead with eight minutes to go.
Trenton's only score of the game came on a 65 yard touchdown run by senior tailback Dillon Triplet with 6:59 to go. Seth Acton drilled the extra point. Pembroke Hill finished the scoring with 2:40 remaining, on a one yard run by Ted Gallagher.
Trenton, now 2-3 on the season, will try to get back to the .500 mark this Friday night, hosting the Lincoln Prep Tigers in a 7:00 kick at C.F. Russell Stadium. The win improves Pembroke Hill's record to 4-1, with only a 7-0 Week 2 loss at Clinton keeping the Raiders from undefeated status.
