Entries for next month’s Missouri Day Festival Parade are nearing 150 including decorated floats, antique and restored motorized cars and trucks, family units, special guests and of course, high school marching bands and military participants.

Parade sponsors, the Trenton Rotary Club expect the number to reach 200 and are encouraging those who haven’t entered to do so as the parade line-up is being developed. Officials believe the special theme to honor military servicemen and women as one of the reasons for the strong participation as well as prize money to many of the award winning entries.

A $200.00 grand prize will be awarded to the overall “Spirit of Missouri Days” entry, with $100 cash prizes awarded to the best entries in the best business float, best organizational float, best youth entry, and the most patriotic entry. Winners in the categories of best tractor, best car or truck pre 1960, best car or truck 1961 or newer, and the family with the most participants in the parade on one unit will each receive a $50.00 prize. Special recognition will also be given to the oldest living military veteran – man and woman – riding in the parade.

Parade officials are encouraging veterans of all ages to participate – either on floats, vehicles or military equipment. “This parade is paying tribute to all who have served our country” says Rotary committee members “and we want each and every individual who made the sacrifice for all Americans to be recognized.”

Persons wanting to register for the parade should contact co-chairs Rick Klinginsmith or Steve Maxey or enter on the parade website at modayparade@live.com. The 28th annual Missouri Day Festival parade will roll at 8:30 am on Saturday, October 20th.
