|The Milan High School softball team downed the Schuyler County Lady Rams 4-3 in a non-league game on Thursday night at Milan Legion Field. Alyssa Forster pitched the first four innings for Milan before being replaced on a hot night by Kyley Doak, who picked up the win after Bianca Caponetto cracked a game-winning double in the bottom of the fifth inning.|
Caponetto was 1 for 3 with two RBI's for the Lady 'Cats, while Kaylea Thompson finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Hannah Sanders scored two runs on a 1 for 3 night, and Kailyn Watts contributed a triple and RBI in a 1 for 3 effort.
The win is a good bounce-back for the Lady 'Cats, who lost 17-7 on Tuesday night at Marceline, and now prepare for one of the toughest tournaments in the state, the Putnam County Invitational, this Saturday.
Milan will play in Pool B in the nine-team tournament, drawing Kirksville at 9:30 on Saturday morning and Clark County at 11 o'clock. A third game is guaranteed for all teams involved. Other squads in the tournament include Chillicothe, Monroe City, Putnam County, Centralia, Brookfield, and South Harrison.
