| Behind 155 yards on the ground from senior running back Dillon Triplet, and over 300 rushing yards as a team, the Trenton Bulldogs opened the 2012 football season with a 18-14 road win against the Carrollton Trojans, heard Friday night on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com. Senior quarterback Jacob Spillman had an up-and-down night throwing the football, going 3 of 9 for 60 yards, with an interception thrown in the first quarter helping to lead to a Carrollton touchdown with Reggie Mathis scoring on a 22 yard run, which ended a 75 yard touchdown drive after the pick.
Trenton, down 7-0 in the second quarter, got a stagnant offense jump-started with some special teams assistance. Tom Johnson provided the call of Austin Taul's punt return score:

After a conversion miss left the Bulldogs down 7-6, Trenton would control play for the rest of the second quarter, taking the lead on a short touchdown run by Taul:

Carrollton picked up a big play in the third quarter, facing 4th and long from the 31 yard line, when a connection from Mark Hundley to Brandon Escenbach on a slant pattern resulted in six points, with the extra point making it 14-12 Trojans after three quarters.
That score looked like it would hold up as the winning score until Jacob Spillman and Seth Acton created "magic" with just under three minutes to play:

Carrollton had one more chance to take the victory, but was stopped on downs by Trenton's defense short of mid-field, and the Bulldogs ran out the clock from there.
Carrollton running back Keaton Sullivan had 13 carries for 51 yards. Trenton, at 1-0, will host Lexington on Friday night at 7 o'clock (on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com), while Carrollton takes an 0-1 record to Westran to play the Hornets this Friday night.
