First day school enrollments down at Trenton R-9, up at Grundy R5

First day enrollment in the Trenton school district is down by 41 students when compared to last year. Grundy R-5's opening day enrollment is UP by 21 students when compared to a year ago.
Figures provided by the Trenton school district office this morning show 1,221 students are enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grades. That would be down 41 when compared to the first day of classes LAST year at Trenton R-9 (1,262 on Aug 17, 2011).

It should be noted that last year, the Trenton school enrollment had gone up 30 students from the 2010 first day of class. 2011 marked the FIFTH consecutive year for an increase in the number of Trenton students.

The current school year enrollment at Trenton shows class size ranges from 110 in the fourth grade down to 77 in the third grade.

Enrollments by building level include 466 in Rissler elementary school for kindergarten through fourth grade; 358 in Trenton middle school for fifth through eighth grades; and 397 at Trenton high school for freshmen through seniors. In a comparison to last year, each of those buildings has lower students numbers on the first day of classes.

Opening day enrollment shows an increase in students for the Grundy R-5 school district. The Kindergarten through 12th grade system has
178 students. Superintendent Rob Deaver indicated that is an increase by 21 when compared to the first day of Grundy R-5 classes last year.

The classes this year are ranging in size from 23 in the tenth grade down to seven pupils in the third grade. The high school in Galt has 95 students and the elementary school at Humphreys has 83 pupils as of today (Tuesday).
