Young Trenton woman fights for citizenship to remain in the U.S.

2009 Trenton High School graduate Lauren Gray received a degree this spring from Stephens College in Columbia, and upon first glance, appears like an "All-American" girl. Yet, she is in danger of being deported to England when she turns 21 years of age on August 8th. The reason is that she moved with her family from England to Trenton when she was four years old, and at age 21, she will no longer qualify to stay under her parent's investor visa.
Lauren's parents are Ian and Ali Gray, who purchased the Lakeview Restaurant and Motor Lodge in Trenton in 1995 and have employed about 30 U.S. citizens, and pay all taxes.

The family, including 2012 Trenton High School graduate Gemma Gray, has been going through the slow and complicated process of qualifying to remain in the United States and seek citizenship.

If Lauren Gray does not obtain a green car, or another form of visa by August 8th, she will be forced to leave this country. Her efforts to stay include a petition which seeks public comments of support:

The Gray family has returned to England several times to visit since they moved here, but complications have developed:

She was asked what it would be like to have to move back to England:

Miss Gray explained that she has not been able to obtain employment in this country because of U.S. law. The family has been seeking green cards for several years. She explains how a green card would affect her:

Lauren's parents, Ian and Ali Gray are E-2 Investor Visa holders. Mrs. Gray spoke with us about that:

Ali Gray's parents, Colin and Nora Withers, moved to Trenton from England and eventually became U.S. citizens. They have petitioned for the Gray family to receive green cards, part of a long process towards citizenship:

That is Ali Gray, who had her family moved to Trenton in 1995. If there are no changes, Gemma Gray would face the same circumstances as Lauren Gray does currently.
