Marceline man injured after car strikes carriage

A Marceline man, 54-year old Andy Miller, was injured on Friday night when the horse-drawn carriage he was operating was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by 32-year old Henry Pennington of Independence, Kansas.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said that both vehicles were northbound on Highway 5 in Chariton County (at Mike), when the collision occurred at 11 o'clock Friday evening.

Pennington apparently escaped uninjured. Injuries to the horse were unknown. Miller was flown from the scene in Chariton County by medical helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia. His injuries were described as SERIOUS by the Highway Patrol. The Chariton County Sheriff's Department and Marceline First Responders were at the scene of the accident offering assistance.
