The Chillicothe Police Department says that four teenage boys have been arrested following a weekend "crime spree" that saw numerous motor vehicles being entered illegally. On Sunday morning, Chillicothe Police began to receive calls from citizens reporting vehicle break-in's on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
As a result of the investigation, four suspects were contacted and later confessed to entering up to 100 vehicles. Arrested were 17-year old Zachary Laffey, 17-year old Larry Hooper the Third, 17-year old Jonathan Stanfield, and a 15-year old juvenile. All suspects are from the Chillicothe area. Some of the property that was stolen was recovered, but the owners have not been identified.

As of this (Monday) morning, approximately fifteen victims have notified Chillicothe Police that their vehicles were broken into. The Department is asking that if you feel your vehicle was broken into this weekend, and you are missing items, contact police for a report and to possibly identify your property.

Police noted the suspects were able to enter into a large number of vehicles by "carhopping". This a common term for a practice that involves walking around and checking door handles to see if a car is locked. If the car is unlocked, the suspects will open the door and search the car for valuables. Police say this type of crime can be greatly controlled by simply locking your vehicles' doors when you park your car.
