|Although it is still five months away, the Trenton Rotary Club is announcing that they are accepting entries for the annual Missouri Day Festival parade. The October 20th parade will start at 8:30 in the morning and include numerous high school marching bands. Steve Maxey can be contacted with parade entries.|
A committee selected the theme of "The Sounds of Freedom - A Tribute to the Military". Members of the committee say they anticipate this will be the biggest parade in Trenton's history. Those members say honoring the National Guard's Citizen Soldiers who recently returned from overseas duty will be the parade's focus.
The parade will include decorated floats, cars, tractors, and special guests. Eight hundred and fifty dollars in prize money will be awarded. One hundred dollar cash prizes are offered for the best business float, best organizational float, best youth float, and best patriotic entry. The grand prize of $200.00 is awarded to the "Spirit of Missouri Day" entry. Judging of all entries is to take place DURING the parade. There will be additional prize monies of $50.00 each for vest tractor, best car or truck pre-1960, best car or truck from 1961 and beyond, family with the most participants, and best equestrian unit.
Parade co-chairmen Steve Maxey and Rick Klinginsmith are heading the Rotary Club's committee. They encourage businesses, organizations, churches, and other groups to begin planning for their entry in the October 20th Missouri Day Parade. Entries of a political nature are required to pay $50.00 to help offset parade expenses.
