Former Trenton High School and North Central Missouri College standout Zach Vandevender has been named the new girl's basketball coach at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, according to a recent report from the Sedalia Democrat.
Vandevender will take over for Chris Parsons, who resigned six weeks ago to take the opening at Palmyra High School. Vandevender applied for both the girl's and boy's basketball positions at Smith-Cotton this spring, but was passed over for the boy's job when the school hired Jefferson City High School's Ray Hughes.

Vandevender's coaching experience at Smith-Cotton includes coaching junior varsity boy's basketball and wide receivers on the football team.

The 29 year old Vandevender is the son of Steve and Susie Vandevender of Trenton.
