Alex Smith had a solid night for Kansas City, completing 14-of-22 passes for 127 yards. Dwayne Bowe caught five passes for 62 yards, while second-year tight end Travis Kelce, a bright spot throughout Chiefs camp this summer, had four catcher for 63 yards and a touchdown.

In the first quarter, the Chiefs #1 defense kept Carolina quarterback Cam Newton in check, with the Auburn University product going 4-of-9 for 65 yards. Newton was held out of the Panthers first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills last week, recovering from off-season surgery to his left ankle.

The Chiefs kicking battle between veteran Ryan Succop and rookie Cairo Santos had little decided last night, with Succop nailing a 54 yard and 25 yard field goal, while Santos connected from 44 yards.

Trailing 16-14 midway through the third quarter, Carolina scored the final two touchdowns of the game to secure the victory. Jonathan Stewart had two rushing scores, with Brenton Bersin catching a 16-yard scoring pass, and Texas Longhorn product Fozzy Whittaker plunging in from one yard out for the final score of the game for the Panthers.

Kansas City returns to Arrowhead Stadium for preseason game #3, this Saturday night at 7 o'clock, hosting the Minnesota Vikings.
