But, participants and volunteers with the DAWGS plan to continue with community events and Special Olympics sports competitions. Funds accumulated by the DAWGS have been transferred to a separate account with Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled.

It's basically a change in the management of the money to have the funds remain in Grundy County, be appropriated as directed by the Families and Friends board, while continuing to meet the needs of the developmentally disabled persons.

A statement from the DAWGS expresses a thank you to the community for what's described as love, kind words, and support the past six years. It also notes the numerous
local athletes will continue with practices and compete in Special Olympic events as
usual. Coaches volunteer their time to work with the local athletes.

One event coming up is the softball game between the DAWGS and various celebrities of the community. It'll be held Saturday September 13th at 6:30 on Griffin ball field. The game is open to any developmentally disabled person in Grundy County who wants to play against local celebrities. Families and Friends will sponsor the game with donations going to the “gifted group” - a self advocacy group for developmentally
disabled persons of Grundy County. Plans also are expected to be made for the
Festival of Trees event held the night after Thanksgiving at the Rock Barn.
