Pending site selection and certificate of need approval, the new hospital is expected to open in 2016. The 60,000-plus square foot, 60-bed rehabilitation hospital will serve the medical rehabilitation needs of patients by offering specific programs for stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and other major conditions.

The new rehabilitation hospital will allow Saint Luke’s to develop several inpatient rehabilitation centers that are described as accessible to
all of the entire Saint Luke’s patient population.

Neurosurgeons at Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute are using MRI-guided laser technology to successfully remove or dissipate malignant brain tumors, becoming the first in the region to use this FDA-cleared system. What's considered a minimally-invasive procedure, known as NeuroBlate®, can reach malignant tumors deep in the brain using thermal therapy while cooling and preserving surrounding tissue.

With this new procedure, Saint Luke’s neurosurgeons use a specially designed laser probe to burn away tumor tissue with one side of the probe, while the CO2-cooled tip on the other side protects surrounding healthy tissue from any damage.
