The patrol reports Orona was treated for a non-life threatening injury and released from Samaritan Hospital at Macon. Orona later was incarcerated at the Macon County jail. Orona faces multiple charges which include a Livingston County warrant accusing him with felony burglary, and 2 felony probation and parole warrants.

Orona also is accused of tampering with a motor vehicle, 1st degree assault on a law enforcement officer, felony resisting arrest, armed criminal action, being a felon in possession of a firearm, felony possession of stolen property, and traffic charges.

The northeast Missouri troop headquarters at Macon was notified by Chillicothe police around 8 o'clock Saturday night that Chillicothe police had received information Orona possibly was driving a stolen pickup truck in the Bucklin area. A trooper located the pickup at Bucklin, and as the officer attempted to stop the pickup, the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. The pickup was pursued through Bucklin and onto county roads in Macon County. The patrol said the suspect abandoned the truck in a bean field and fled on foot about 2 miles east of the Macon-Linn County line.

Other members of the highway patrol, the Macon County and Linn County sheriff's departments, a patrol aircraft, and a canine unit responded to the area to search for the person.

At approximately 1:45 yesterday morning, officers were able to determine Orona had been picked up at New Cambria by a female acquaintance. Shortly afterwards, around 2:10 yesterday morning, members of the highway patrol and Macon County sheriff's department stopped the vehicle driven by the female acquaintance on Highway 36 just west of New Cambria. Officers attempted to approach the vehicle when a passenger, later identified as Jeremy Orona, pointed a handgun at officers and fired a shot from inside the vehicle. A trooper fired one shot from his duty weapon that hit Orona in the right leg. Orona was taken into custody, taken to the hospital in Macon, treated and released, and incarcerated at the Macon County jail.

No one else was reported hurt.

The patrol noted the charges are accusations, and evidence in support of the charges must be presented to a court.

The female was not taken into custody. Highway patrol public information officer, Brent Bernhart, at midday yesterday , said there were no charges against her.
