|The Chillicothe Farmers Market, and University of Missouri Extension of Livingston County, host their 6th annual pressure canner tune-up Saturday morning at the Farmers Market.|
Extension Nutrition and Health Education Specialist, Janet Hackert, will provide testing equipment. Persons are asked to take their entire canner to be checked---not just the gauge. Ms. Hackert also will be available to answer questions about canning, freezing, and other methods of preserving. In addition, University of Missouri guide sheets on those topics will be available.
The hours for the pressure canner checks and information are Saturday morning from 8 until 11 o'clock at the Chillicothe square.
Children visiting the market Saturday morning can learn jump roping tricks and participate in games beginning at 8 o'clock. A limited supply of free jump ropes is to be available for children. University Extension Human Development Specialist Jessica Trussell, Nutrition Program Associate Tracy Minnis, and Youth Program Associate Jena Eskew, are to be involved in the program.
The canner testing and jump rope activity are to be at the center of the market as part of an obesity prevention program co-sponsored by several community organizations.
The Livingston County Extension Council will be hosting a free pancake breakfast at the Chillicothe Farmer's Market Saturday morning from 8 until 10 o'clock. It's part of a year long celebration of 100 years of the University of Missouri Extension Service.
The Farmer's Market is on the west side of the courthouse in Chillicothe. It opens at 8 o'clock on Saturday mornings May through October.
