Porter was an All-State high school player at East Buchanan High School in Gower in the early part of the 2000's, before signing with North Central Missouri College. After two very successful seasons that saw Porter leave NCMC as one of the most prolific scorers in school history, she continued her playing career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has been employed as a social studies teacher and coach in the Lathrop School District since 2007.

At Lathrop, Coach Porter will take over a highly successful Lady Mules program that has put together a good stretch of seasons, including a runner-up finish to Cameron in Class 3, District 16 in 2013-2014.
