The Steele Police Department received a 911 call from the River Oaks Nursing Center early that day.

Staff members said two men both wearing masks, one armed with a handgun, entered the nursing home and ordered staff inside a bathroom, the news release said. The suspects went through a purse belonging to one of the employees, but nothing was taken.

"At this time it is unclear the motive of the suspects, although it is suspected they may have been after narcotics," Stanfield reported.

One of the nurses was assaulted, receiving a minor injury during the incident.

Pemiscot County deputies assisted Steele police at the scene.

Stanfield encourages anyone who may have information to call the Steele Police Department at 573-695-3411 or the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department at 573-333-4101. Callers may remain anonymous.
