Trenton Boys Tennis Salvages Third Place At Marshall Tourney

The Trenton Bulldogs traveled to Marshall High School on Thursday morning, spending the day competing in the four-team Marshall Tournament, with the Marshall Owls, Fulton Hornets, and Kirksville Tigers.

In the first new rounds, the Bulldogs struggled against the traditionally strong programs from Kirksville and Marshall. The host Owls swamped the Bulldogs 9-0. Isaiah Swann came closest to a victory for THS, losing by a 10-5 final (Summers). Leighton Fletchall managed three points in a loss (10-3) to Hadley of Marshall. Alex Davis fell 10-2. Trenton lost two other matches 10-1 and took a 10-love defeat. In doubles, Trenton lost matches by scores of 10-love, 10-3, and 10-3.

In round two, the Bulldogs did manage one victory, but ultimately fell to the Kirksville Tigers, 8-1. Trenton's Isaiah Swann took victorious at #1 singles, 10-4 over Hanson. Davis and Davis both scored four points, Marlay, Gannon Albrecht, and Fletchall losing their singles matches by 10-3 scores.

In doubles against the Tigers, the Trenton team of Lynch and Herring lost 10-5. Hall and Whitney fell 10-3, while Gavin Albrecht and Demsich lost 10-2.

In a complete turn of fortunes from the earlier tough sledding, Trenton dominated the third place duel with Fulton, rolling to a 9-0 victory. For the Bulldogs, Swann won 10-1 (Young), Alex Davis won 10-6 (Schneider), Marlay was a 10-4 winner (Hendricks), with Fletchall shutting out Storm 10-love, and J. Davis knocking off Adams 10-6. Gannon Albrecht won by forfeit.

In doubles against the Hornets, Trenton's team of Lynch and Herring won 10-1, Hall and Whitney claimed a 10-2 win, while Gavin Albrecht teamed with Demsich for a 10-love shutout win.

Trenton's boys tennis team is next in action on Monday, going to St. Joseph to battle the LeBlond Golden Eagles at 4 o'clock.
