|The North Central Missouri College baseball team picked up two Region XVI victories on Saturday afternoon, routing the visiting St. Charles Cougars 7-1 and 19-9 in games played at Burleigh Grimes Field.|
Sophomore Jason Luster, a product of Boonville High School, set the tone for the Pirates in game two, smashing the baseball with a 5-for-5 game, including 3 home runs, a double, four runs scored, and NINE RBI's. Center fielder J.J. Wesley and left fielder James Brownsberger both scored four runs, while catcher Turner Herbek had a 2-for-3 game with a home runs and five RBI's.
In addition to his hitting prowess, Luster earned the victory from the pitching mound, throwing five innings, giving up 12 hits and eight runs (seven earned) while striking out five. Tamesh Lourens pitched the sixth inning and gave up a solo home run. Brendan Fosdick took the loss for the Cougars, falling to 0-5 on the season.
Game one was a quieter affair, with the Pirates beating the Cougars 7-1. Caleb Bounds pitched six superb innings for North Central, giving up five hits and a run (solo homer by Zach Herman), while striking out nine. Aspen Taylor pitched a scoreless seventh.
Alex Ludwick had a home run for the Pirate offense, with Wesley adding a triple. Ludwick and Michael Babbitt had two RBI's each.
The wins improve North Central's record to 17-20. Head Coach Donnie Hillerman has announced that, due to wet field conditions at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton, Tuesday's doubleheader with Highland (KS) Community College will be played on the Highland campus. Games begin at 2 o'clock.
