Salaries of Grundy R-5 school employees were discussed, with raises approved, during a meeting last night of the board of education at Galt. Discussion also was held on employee health insurance coverage.

The health plan the Grundy R-5 district offers will see a three percent increase in cost. The board approved covering 100 percent of the district-offered plan including the rate increase for the 2014-15 school year.

The board raised by one thousand dollars, the base salary for a teacher at Grundy R-5. For the next school year, the beginning salary will be 27 thousand, 500 dollars. All certified staff will be allowed movement on the salary schedule, if possible, for years of experience and continuing education. An average increase of four percent also was approved for teachers, non-certified staff and administrators. Information from Superintendent Rob Deaver indicates the total additional cost to the Grundy R-5 district is approximately 58 thousand, 300 dollars for the 2014-15 school year.

Following an executive session, the board voted to offer all non-certified staff members contracts for the next year. Extra duty contracts also were offered.

Adam Davidson was hired as a part-time custodian at the high school.

In other action, Grundy R-5 will continue membership with the Missouri School Boards Association at a fee of 23-hundred 15 dollars.

The Vocational Agriculture program will apply for an enhancement grant with the district covering 25 percent of the cost and grant funds to finance the remainder. The grant proposal involves updating technology in the ag classroom at Galt.

Given the oaths of office last night were two incumbents: Abe Carver and Larry Cook. Tyson Christy is new to the board but was unable to attend last night, and will be sworn in at a later date. Each is a three year term. Officers selected by the board were President Eric Gann, Vice President Randy Radcliff, Treasurer Larry Cook, and Secretary Melody Shipley.

Classes will be dismissed early tomorrow (Friday) for teacher in-service training.

High school at Galt lets out at 11:30 and the elementary building in Humphreys dismisses at 11:40. For the Easter break, there's an early dismissal Thursday April 17th with the same times. No school on Good Friday April 18th nor Monday April 21st at Grundy R-5.
