NCMC Lady Pirates Win Four Straight

The North Central Missouri College softball team has swept back-to-back doubleheaders to start the week, winning two at Maple Woods (Kansas City) on Tuesday and taking a pair at Fort Scott (Kansas) on Wednesday.

Against Maple Woods, the Lady Pirates beat the Monarchs in game one by a score of 4-1. Olivia Lotven had a 2 RBI single in the third inning to give North Central the lead. Jennifer Stock was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a base-on-balls. Scotlin Hurley was masterful from the pitching rubber, firing a four-hitter at the Greyhounds, striking out four and walking three. The run given up was unearned.

In the second game against Maple Woods, the Lady Pirates scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never let up, cruising to a 15-7 victory. Hurley was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and 3 RBI's for NCMC, with Stock going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and 2 RBI's. Lotven and Shelby Salter both had two hits. Lauren White picked up the pitching win, throwing 2 2/3 innings, giving up six hits, seven runs (five earned), with three strikeouts. Macie Kinsey pitched a perfect 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Against Fort Scott, Alexa Blackwell ignited the Lady Pirates offense in game one with a lead-off double, followed by a two-run homer by Hurley, who added a double and two additional RBI's to her game. Blackwell scored three runs in a 6-2 win. Hurley threw a complete game three-hitter to get the win, striking out six.

In game two, North Central blasted Fort Scott by a score of 16-5. NCMC put up 20 hits and scored consistently through all seven innings. Hailey Lowery was 5-for-6 with a double, 4 RBI's, and three runs scored. Hurley was 4-for-5 with a double, five runs scored, and three RBI's. Jennifer Stock was 2-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI's. Macie Kinsey threw seven innings to get the win, giving up nine hits while striking out five batters.

North Central returned home after the games in Fort Scott, beginning preparation for a four-game weekend series against Three Rivers Community College. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 2 o'clock, with Sunday's double-dip at 2 o'clock, with all four contests to be played at Mark Griffin Memorial Field adjacent to Trenton High School. Heading into the weekend, the Lady Pirates overall record sits at 20-13. Their region record is 10-4.

The NCMC baseball suffered through some ups-and-downs to start the week, with Maple Woods sweeping the Pirates on Monday afternoon, 7-6 and 13-7 at Burleigh Grimes Field.

North Central bounced back nicely on Tuesday afternoon against Hannibal-LaGrange, sweeping games by scores of 5-4 and 10-0.

NCMC is at St. Charles Community College on THURSDAY afternoon, for a 2 o'clock doubleheader in Region 16 play.
