Several Accidents On Monday Cause Numerous Injuries

Separate accidents, two in Daviess County and one near Lathrop caused numerous injuries among occupants of the vehicles.

Separate injury accidents occurred yesterday afternoon in Daviess County.

The highway patrol reports a Princeton man, 41 year old Fred Downing, was moderately injured when his southbound vehicle went off the left side of Interstate 35, crossed the median and northbound lanes, where it struck an embankment and barb wire fence before coming to a stop. Vehicle damage was extensive in the accident six miles north of the Winston Junction. He was using a seat belt.

On northbound I-35 yesterday afternoon, seven miles south of Pattonsburg, 58 year old Nona Stinemetz of Urbandale, Iowa received minor injuries when the sports utility vehicle she was driving entered the left lane closure and was attempting to pass a car driven by 41 year old Dirk Barrett of Ankeny, Iowa. He wasn't hurt.

The Stinemetz vehicle struck traffic cones, then crossed into the other lane striking the left rear of the car. After impact, the SUV ran off the road, traveled down an embankment where it struck numerous trees and went into a ravine. Damage was extensive to the S-U-V with minor to the car. Both drivers were using safety devices.

Before sunrise yesterday morning, a trucker from Promise City, Iowa – 62 year old Ronnie Becker – sustained minor injuries in an accident three miles east of Lathrop.

He was exiting off southbound I-35 when he stopped the truck, failed to get it into park,
it traveled backwards and jack-nifed. Damage was minor. All three of the injured persons were transported by ambulance to Cameron Regional Medical Center.
